Why CGC?
"As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life."
If you're interested in having your dog perform therapy work, many facilities will ask for CGC certification on top of their own behavioral test.
Some landlords, apartment buildings and insurance companies have started to see the value in CGC certification and will allow/cover CGC certified breeds they normally wouldn't.
If you want a well-behaved and obedient dog, you can't go wrong with a CGC class. Click here for more information on the four CGC classes and certifications.

This class covers the 10 items in the standard Canine Good Citizen test. The test items include:
1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting 3. Appearance and Grooming 4. Loose-leash-walking 5. Walking through a crowd 6. Sit, Down and Stay 7. Coming when called 8. Reaction to another dog 9. Reaction to distraction 10. Supervised separation |
Two behaviors will be covered in each lesson and we'll practice the CGC behaviors for 5 weeks in order of the test items. For example, week 1 we'll work on Accepting a friendly stranger and Sitting politely for petting, week 2 we'll work on Appearance and grooming and Loose-leash-walking and so on.
Once we have completed all 10 behaviors, we'll start over and cycle back through.
Testing can be scheduled at any point. My testing fee is $15. The AKC charges processing fees end their end and you find find more information on that here.
