Our Training Philosophy
We adhere to LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) training standards as set forth by the IAABC, CCPDT and other professional organizations. LIMA protocols, as well as the Humane Hierarchy are based on science and methods which are both effective and least likely to do harm. These methods allow us to communicate and use a variety of tools without resorting to methods that have the potential to cause unnecessary stress or possible long-term behavioral damage.
We believe in tailoring our training plans as much as possible to each individual client and animal we work with to best fit their needs and learning styles. This sets everyone up for long-term success and allows us to teach clients and animals skills to help them make better choices.
Training and behavior modification is a process. Very rarely does everything go smoothly. Mistakes happen (and are a critical part of learning). Troubleshooting and modification of the training program is normal - particularly as you and your pet go through life changes. This is why we offer free guidance and troubleshooting via text, email and Marco Polo with all of our clients.
Training is a life-long process. Skills must be practiced to be maintained. You will usually get out of training what you put into training. We've found that our clients who struggle with pets with the most challenging behaviors, but put in the work, often have the strongest and most fulfilling relationships with their pets.
